When Jussi died suddenly and unexpectedly on 9 September, 1960, the press officer of the Royal Opera in Stockholm, Bertil Hagman, asked Jussi’s closest friends and colleagues, still in shock, to write down their thoughts and memories of him. The memorial book which resulted was published in Swedish within weeks of Jussi’s death, under the title, Jussi Björling en minnesbok.
Now, after six decades, we have published the articles in this book together in English translation for the first time, making available the sorrowing thoughts, stage anecdotes and happy memories of Jussi as related by his friends.
Jussi Björling: We Remember features the skillful translation of Gail Campain, with additional text, footnotes and biographies of the contributors by Harald Henrysson. Edited by Janel E. Lundgren, the book has been given a new title and a new look, with additional research and carefully selected photos from the collections of the Jussi Björling Museum.
Published by the Jussi Björling Society - USA., the book is available only to current members of the three Jussi Björling Societies.
